After Frog's Leap we paid a lovely visit to V. Sattui(very busy, but great picnic food and some good wines).
Our next stop was Schramsburg, one of the best champagne cellars in the U.S. They're famous for having produced the champagne that Nixon took to China, and have been serving the White House ever since. (Oh, and us.) There's a statue of a frog-riddler (frogs are an unintentional theme here, really!) out front of the cellars: riddlers go through the champagne racks and turn every bottle 1/8 of a turn periodically to ensure that sediment doesn't collect on one side. Quite an intricate process, and quite good champagne. The Tasting We tried the Blanc de Blanc, the Blanc de Noir, and two years of Cremant (the latter of which was our favorite). We also tried J. Schramm, which was lovely of course but less sweet than the Cremant (which turned out to be a criterion for Ashley and Mary). Tom was happy to finish the J. Schramm (he's such a help, that way).
The tasting room was lovely, and here you see some of the bottles as well as a few people with a good amount of champagne in them!
